Though the Yuba College baseball team compiled a winning record, it was denied a playoff spot by a group of coaches at a meeting held Monday May 7th.With a week left in the regular season it looked as if the 49ers would capture a spot in the Northern California Playoffs. Two crucial losses to Cosumnes River College and Sierra College bumped Yuba (23-17) from second in the Bay Valley Conference to fourth. This would deny the 49ers a guaranteed spot in the playoffs and would leave the fate of Yuba’s playoff chances in the hands of the group of coaches.The BVC took the top three teams from the East Division for the playoffs.Yuba ended the season with a huge 7-6 win over Sacramento City College, ending the Panthers 14-game winning streak. Sac City had beaten Yuba 13-4 and 10-1 in the team’s two previous meetings.Freshman leftfielder Tory Davis and sophomore centerfielder Jake McConiga each made BVC first team. Sophomore pitcher Josh Glynn, freshman third baseman Jesse Larkins and freshman designated hitter J.J. Gibson made the BVC’s second team. Sophomore pitcher Kevin Jenson was an honorable mention.
