Of all the places on campus that need a major makeover I would be the first one screaming, “The bathrooms!” They never seem clean, not to mention that they are stuck in a 70’s time warp. Powdered soap? Environmentally unfriendly paper towels? The little pastel tiles were a nice touch in elementary school but come on, we’re in college right? I know they are not aesthetically pleasing, but like it or not, we’ve got to go.
Unfortunately women have been assaulted in the campus rest rooms on more than one occasion. Not only do we have to relieve ourselves in totally tacky facilities, we have to worry about our safety. I propose a plan that will virtually eliminate the opportunity for assaults and help to keep the rest rooms clean: a card – key entry system.
Every student is issued a card she must insert in the door to enter. If she looses her card, she’ll have to buy a new one. If she forgets her card at home for the day, she’ll have to make a run to the nearest gas station.
Did I mention the new system would also have a fingerprint verification mechanism so borrowing someone else’s card to use the bathroom would be impossible? A totally controlled environment is the only way to ensure sanitized and safe rest rooms. I know these measures may sound extreme, but a totally controlled environment is the only way to ensure sanitized and safe rest rooms. How else are we going to solve this problem?
On the other hand, I haven’t seen any rats scurrying by my ankles. Considering the resent unspeakable terrorists acts thrust upon Americans, my bathroom dilemma is flushable.
So much for my lofty ideas of gorgeous bathrooms on campus.
