The Yuba College women’s tennis team have continued their winning streak throughout this season, and several players are making their mark in the conference. Becky Kiehn and Jennie Miracle have been playing strong in their matches and are having a successful year.
In a match against Sierra College on March 9, Miracle won at the No. 2 singles, establishing her mark as the best No. 2 player in the conference.
“Look for Jennie to be competing in the Norcal Tournament in Fresno and the State Tournament in Palm Springs this year,” said Coach Prager.
Becky Kiehn is also having an amazing season with 11 wins and only 2 losses. Those losses were to Jenny Souksavath from Sierra College and Justine Liberato from Chabot College.
“Souksavath and Liberato are the No. 1 and No. 2 players in Norcal,” said Prager. “Becky is ranked the No. 3 player.”
In the upcoming Bay Valley Conference tournament, which will be held at the Yuba City Racquet Club, Kiehn will be seeded No. 2; Kiehn and Miracle will also play as the No. 2 doubles team.
Holly Bowman and Mary Lawrie have won several of their matches as well. Both girls had wins in their games against Sac City and Diablo Valley in their singles and double matches.
The men’s team hasn’t been quite as victorious as the women; however, they had their first team win of the year when they defeated Shasta College on March 23. Matt Rodrigues, Ge Lau, and Chris Eytcheson won their singles matches. Rodrigues and teammate Chai Her won the No. 1 doubles, and Eytcheson paired up with Lau to win at No. 2 doubles.
According to Coach Prager, Rodrigues will come in to the conference tournament as a seeded player, most likely No. 8.
“He has a great chance of qualifying for the Norcal regional tournament,” said Prager, “in singles as well as doubles with Chai Her.”
With high hopes of several players attending the tournament, the 49ers have their sights set on State.
