If someone ever said volleyball is easy, she is surely mistaken. Volleyball takes a lot of skill and a lot of heart. This year’s Yuba College women’s volleyball team has showed how the game should be played.
The ladies are looking for a bid in the playoffs. Yuba College is one of the teams up for one of the four at large bids available for them. So far Yuba College is in fifth place in their conference which is really good considering their conference is one of the toughest competitors in the state.
Only 16 teams will be making it to the playoffs, Yuba College head coach Thea Post says, “I believe our women have a good chance at making the playoffs this season.”
When asked to describe this years team in one word Coach Post said, “Competitive.” Post also went on to say, “These 12 women are great players, and people. They always played competitively, very dedicated and very unselfish.”
Yuba College has played against strong teams this season like American River College, Sacramento City College and San Joaquin Delta College. Post said, “The middle blocker from Delta has been one of the toughest competitors this season. Morgan Loftis has the size, speed and power of a great volleyball player.”
Of the last 3 games, Yuba College was able to win only one game, on November 8 against Napa Valley College winning in 3 games. However both games against the other teams Shasta and American River Colleges, proved to be a tough battle. Both games were very close. The women on the Yuba College squad has their share of great players as well.
“Statistically Crystal Haymore has the most kills and has really come through as a player night in and night out, however we are not a team with just one bright star,” stated Coach Post.
For example each player on the volleyball team plays an important role on the team.
Since the team was very young and new this year, we should plan to see all 8 freshmen as sophomores next season. Expect to see once again a strong team next season.
Coach Post said the goals of next seasons team are, “Always be competitive and hunt for playoffs.”
