Jacob Rydman (a.k.a. Jake), former Yuba College student from 2001-2003, was one of the first runners to receive a cross country scholarship to the William Jessup University in Rocklin.
This university is the new official name for San Jose Christian College. Rocklin is known as the “Endurance Capital of the World” where competitions such as the Western States 100 Mile Run, the American River 50 Mile Run and the 49er Canyon 10 Mile Classic take place.
In this semester, Jake has gone to the National Championships, which took place in Elsah, llinois, and with a 30:47 time placing 16th.
According to Nick Vogt, former cross-country coach of Yuba College from 1993 to 2001, who is now the cross country coach at William Jessup, Jake is the type of person who is able to accomplish the necessary work in order to become a strong distance runner for WJU, putting in quality and (controlled and directed) training.
Vogt also feels that coaching Rydman has been a privilege because not only does Jake run well, but because he has “a desire to grow in a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, giving all of their gifts and abilities for the Lord’s honor and glory.”
He is excited to work with Jake again next year, seeing what Rydman can achieve in the next year.
