The Sutter Buttes serve as an historic backdrop to our Yuba-Sutter home, one that many of us take for granted as just another miscellaneous landmark going unnoticed in our daily lives.
Home to many unique volcanic land formations, and rare animal species, the Buttes truly comprise the smallest and most amazing mountain range in the world.
Recently, nearly 1,800 acres of the northern part of the Buttes, called Peace Valley, has been designated a state park by the State Park and Recreation Commission.
The classification of the land was just the beginning. There continues to be great debate regarding the regulation and monitoring of public access to the land, as well as the actual naming of the new park, which could go on for years.
