The Track and Field team, like many other teams at Yuba College, has practiced through the rain and shine, wind and calm, but lately just rain and wind. With the weather being so miserable, practices have been suffering.
The Track and Field team was already small, with eleven athletes on the team, but with the rain, only a few brave souls have been out running, throwing and jumping in the cold rain.
Brian Nelson is one of the few aforementioned souls that have been trudging through the soggy dirt to get to the track to run. Nelson is dedicated to his sport and the amount of time he has been putting in at the track to practice showed at their last meet. Nelson ran two events at the Ed Ames Invitational at Hartnell College in Salinas and did really well in both.
Nelson ran the 1,500 meter race in 4 minutes, 4.69 seconds. This was his personal best ever. He also made his best time for of the season in the 800 meter by running it in 1 minute, 57.29 seconds. Nelson also runs the 400 meter.
Nelson is a Sutter High graduate and hopes to transfer to Chico next year. He has a good future in Track and Field, as long as he keeps up the drive and passion that he already has been showing.
