Just like every other guy in the United States, Roger Grnat loves to play football. This sport became a passion and a career goal of his when he was just twelve years old. However, when he was a junior at Piper High School in Miami Florida, that passion vanished and reality struck.
It was the biggest game of the high school’s football season and Roger had talent scouts watching him in the stands. After the game, Roger found out that the scouts had heard about a previous injury and didn’t want him anymore. Roger then realized he needed to face the reality that he might never play football again. After a while, Roger started to lose interest in sports and school. His brother started to notice and began encouraging Roger to keep doing his homework and to keep playing the sport that her loves. Roger’s mother also noticed a difference in her son. Because of the fact that his mother was raising her two boys on her own, Roger wanted to stop playing and help his mother. she wouldn’t allow him to stop so he didn’t.
Two years later Ted Hoal, the Yuba College head football coach, called Roger and asked him if he wanted another opportunity to get a scholarship to a four year college. Roger said yes, and moved down to California.
Roger now has talent scouts for four-year colleges asking him to attend their school next year. Roger hasn’t decided yet, but just knows that he wouldn’t be in this place if it weren’t for the encouragement and help of his brother, mom, and coach.
