One day as I was driving down Bridge Street I thought to myself, “I know, I think I’ll go to the best restaurant in Yuba City.” Taking that left turn and pulling into the Dollar Tree parking lot, I waddled into The Taste of India. I suppose it goes without saying that I didn’t leave unsatisfied; the effect of East-Indian cuisine has quite the opposite effect as Chinese food – one plate will keep you full all day.
With a lunch buffet running from 11am to 2pm, The Taste of India offers high-quality East Indian cuisine at a better than reasonable price. I was lucky enough that day to have found Butter Chicken under the glass. Which is to say that the buffet selection changes daily, but there are some extremely delicious constants such as basmati rice, a must-have side dish, tandoori chicken, naan, a flatbread, and for dessert cool, refreshing kheer, a light, slightly runny rice pudding with crushed almond and sweet spices. I recommend going there for the kheer alone, but really everything is good.
The Taste of India is not all curry, kheer, rice, and meat. There are also vegetarian dishes that are sure to please the palette. Look for the okra masala. Also available is a varied and interesting selection of imported and homegrown sweets, so why not take a box home and treat yourself to something exotic?
The helpful waiting staff will be pleased to help you find something good. The next time you’re looking for a meal that will last you all day, go on down to The Taste of India, 1456 Bridge Street next to the Dollar Tree.
