Baldev Johal talks about his priorities for Yuba College students at the candidate forum held at Yuba College on October 21, 2010.
“My number one priority is that students come first. I know that you think all the candidates are going to say the same thing, but students will come first, second, and third.” Baldev Johal opened with this explanation of his priorities at the candidate forum held for Yuba College students on October 21, 2010.
He has a personal reason for this philosophy as his daughter attends Yuba College.
He proclaimed that the current board doesn’t have a clue. “I can’t think of a lower priority than giving the chancellor a raise at this time,” he said.
The question that he pulled out of the hat was about improving the student transfers at Yuba College. Johal explained that to address the issue he would need to understand the issue and what was causing the problem. He also explained that everyone is going to need to start working together.
“It takes a village. We need to bridge the gap to trust we are all working for the same goal,” he said. In closing, ” It is important to remember that (the) budget is a tool. We have to know how to use that tool to make sure it is applied to the most effective use.” Johal’s goal is to make sure everyone gets the same educational experience.
