Jonathon Garcia went 17-21 with two touchdowns, both to tight end David Wilson, while running backs Juan Johnson, Lurell Johnson and Jeremy Williams all ran for a touchdown apiece as Yuba College (5-3 overall, 2-1 conference) picked up a much needed Bay Valley Conference league victory over College of the Redwoods (0-8, 0-3), 41-21, on Saturday October 29, here at Yuba.
Juan Johnson, aside from his touchdown, racked up 170 yards against the Redwoods defense, while the Niner defense held Redwoods to 282 yards of total offense. Those 170 yards lead to Yuba gaining 500 yards of total offense over the 83 plays the offense ran over the duration of the game.
“I think everything was a lot cleaner, we had kids that were more in tune to the gameplan,” said Yuba head coach Ted Hoal, referring to last weeks painful 27-14 loss to Solano College. “They were a lot more focused.”
On the defensive side of the ball, aside of the holding Redwoods to 282 yards of offense, lineman Terick Rogers had two big sacks on Redwoods quarterback Ronn Schruefer, who ended up being taken out of the game after a big hit in the 4th quarter.
The win keeps Yuba in the running for the Bay Valley Conference league crown, and sits second behind Solano College, who beat Contra Costa to stay undefeated.
Now Yuba looks towards a non-league game in Quincy against Feather River College, as key preparation for their final league game of the season the week after, against Contra Costa in San Pablo. Start time for both games are 1:00.
