Coming to a theater arts department near you!
Yuba College will have a full-time Theater Arts professor by the Fall 2015 semester, according to the college’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Dr. Jacques Whitfield. This is good news because it will have been a little over five years since Professor David Wheeler retired in May 2010 and left Yuba College without a full-time faculty member in the Theater Arts Department.
A new full-time Theater Arts professor means that the Theater Arts Department, as a whole, will be stronger. For new students who plan on studying Theater Arts as a major in the Fall 2015 semester, this will provide a consistent source of real world experience, as a successful candidate to the position will not only meet basic education requirements, but will also come from a professional theater background.
The hiring of a new full-time Theater Arts professor does not mean there will be no need for adjunct faculty. Until the new full-time position is filled, adjunct faculty will keep the Theater Arts program moving along and will still be a part of the theater arts department and will work closely with the new full-time professor as they have done in the past. All of the faculty involved in Yuba College’s Theater Arts Department are professionals in the field and can offer a meaningful education.
This highly confidential hiring process begins in the Spring semester of 2015 when the Human Resources Department will officially post the full-time Theater Arts position on the Yuba College Human Resources job webpage. The nature of the confidentiality surrounding this process pertains to the candidates themselves.
To protect candidates from retaliation from current employers (who might cite a conflict of interest) and/or citizens of the public (who might attack the candidates credibility or integrity) Yuba College will keep the names of all candidates and applicants confidential until the candidate(s) sign a waiver allowing background checks.
At that point, the names of the candidate(s) will become a matter of public record. Until then, this is all the information the public will have access to. If you have your own questions about this process or if you wish to apply for the position, please contact the Yuba College Human Resources Department.
