Although finals week may be taking up all of the time and efforts of many Yuba College Students, winter break is approaching bringing the opportunity to think of others. As a representative of the Salvation Army National Headquarters said "The 'miracle' of Christmas is repeated over and over again through the joy of caring and sharing."

Yuba College Students could feel this joy by looking for ways to help out the less fortunate and under privileged of the local community. The upcoming holiday season is the time when many of are feeling the pleasure of giving and receiving costly gifts and throwing huge parties and events. However, for many of the down trodden in the Yuba- Sutter Community it is a time reminders of how little they have are everywhere. This holiday season Yuba College students, have an opportunity to help fellow members of the community by donating of their time, efforts, or resources to help provide for someone else.

Many of the local businesses and charitable organizations have set up ways to donate of the means that Yuba College Students may have. These groups have set up food and toy drives to provide for the children and families in the Yuba- Sutter area, and allow for a chance to give without requiring a donation of an extended amount of time.

One place that Yuba College Students can go to do this is at the Yuba City Mall were donations of toys, teddy bears and stuffed animals are being taken to be given as Christmas gifts for local children in need. The Yuba City store, Toys R Us, is also backing two events in which students can go help the community. The first is an "Angel Tree" hosted by the store and sponsored by a local church. This special Christmas tree holds the names of children for whom gifts can be bought to help brighten the holiday season. The second program is the "Miracle for Life" event in which cash donations are being taken and will be donated to the Yuba City Boy's and Girl's Clubs. These organizations will divide the money up between the needy children of its membership who will then be able to buy presents for their parents, and feel the joy of giving.
