(U-WIRE) SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Cal State Sacramento head football coach Steve Mooshagian hosted an alumni event on Monday night at the Yamshon Alumni Center to introduce the Hornet faithful to his new recruiting class.
The emphasis put on the recruiting class this season was to improve a Hornet defense that allowed 31.7 points per game, the most in the Big Sky Conference.
But before offensive line coach Angus McClure and Mooshagian presented the new class to the Hornet alum, they happily announced the signing of Oakmont High quarterback Crosby Wehr. The local product from Roseville, Calif., passed for 2,700 yards and 27 touchdowns while guiding the Vikings to a 9-3 record and Div. III section playoff game.
Mooshagian would not be shocked if about half of the defensive recruits began making an impact next season. However, he can guarantee that both junior college recruits, defensive tackles Harry Filo and Seth Tago, will be two players that the defense will be built around. The football staff also expects two of the three defensive backs to possibly crack the starting lineup.
But as most of the night was focused on defense, Mooshagian conceded to the alums the excitement he has for the running back department with the return of Kendall Riley and Tyronne Gross. And when the topic of facilities were raised he graciously passed the buck, "If [Wanless] can get [facilities] built at North Dakota than he can get them here."
