Because of low candidate turn out for the Yuba College student government elections, the nomination/petition period for four positions has been extended to March 31 through April 4.

The eligibility clearance for the new petitions will be conducted April 7 through 11. The campaign period for all candidates has been postponed until April 14 through 18, and the voting period has been postponed to April 21 through 25. The election results will be out on April 28. The Student Council, named the Associated Students of Yuba College, is a student government that should, according to its constitution, provide "an expanded educational and social program which will stimulate the intellectual and social awareness of the student body."

In other words, the ASYC should provide students with educational and social opportunities. It should foster an intellectual environment on campus and provide or sponsor social functions. Those candidates running for office this spring have committed themselves to this goal for the next academic year.

Running for the position of President of the Associated Students of Yuba College are Kim Howitt and Monica Kurowski. Running for Vice President is Dionne Zachary. Keith Bordsen, Amanda Clinkenbeard and Yaneli Garcia are running as Senators. One senator per 1,000 students on campus may be elected to the ASYC. No one is running for Secretary, Business Director, Activities Director or Communications Director. The Campus Life office has extended the timeline to petition for these positions to March 31 through April 4.

Also on the ballot Kim Howitt and Keith Bordsen will be competing for the position of Student Trustee. A student Trustee serves on the Board of Trustees, representing the student body of the entire Yuba College District. The Trustee is a non-voting member and serves for only one year but may chose to run again if he or she wishes.
"I think that we need a new trustee," said Kimberly Ellgass, a Yuba College student. Ellgass wants an active trustee who defends instructional programs and student services at Board meetings.
