The 49er women's basketball season started with a new coach and ended with his resignation.

Dave Parsh, the first year head coach of the 49ers, resigned after a year that saw the 49ers advance to the playoffs for the second straight year.

In an interview with the Appeal-Democrat, Parsh stated a couple of reasons for his departure.

"Just trying to work a full-time job and get up to Yuba to run the program the way it needs to be run was too hard for me to do," said Parsh.

Parsh also said in the interview that with the budget cuts, the possibility of a full-time position was unlikely. Parsh is a teacher at Kennedy High in Sacramento, where he commuted from in order to coach the team.
With the resignation, the vacant coaching position was given to Bob Brown, an assistant coach for the Yuba men's basketball team.

Under Parsh, the 49ers finished the season with a 13-19 overall record and went on to face Foothill of Los Altos in the first-round of the Northern California Playoffs. The 49ers lost that game 63-48. The 49ers seemed to never be in contention, falling behind by 17 points, 28-11, at halftime. Sarah Webster led the 49ers with a team-high 13 points while Liz Mabray added 11. The 49ers were seeded No. 24.

Last year under coach Sue Crebbin, the 49ers finished the season with a winning record of 16-14 and advanced to the playoffs for the first time in 30 years. They lost in the first-round of the playoffs to Merced, 59-51.

Last season, the 49ers were led by Marie Nygard, who brought a much-needed inside presence. Nygard is now attending Eastern Washington University. With the departure of Nygard, the 49ers were left with no true size advantage to compete against the bigger opponents in the conference.

This year, the scoring load was left up to Sarah Webster and Erin Cunningham. Both players could have buckled under the pressure, but they took their game to another level. Webster led the team in scoring while Cunningham set up the offense with her brilliant point guard skills.
