Baseball team lacking defense

After a slow start to the baseball season, the Yuba College baseball team finds itself at the bottom of the Bay Valley Conference standings with a 2-4-1 record and a 6-17-1 record overall.
It's been quite a tough journey through the first half of the season for the 49ers. They traveled to Los Angeles two weeks in a row winning two out of eight, then traveled to Sacramento for a weekend tournament losing another four in a row.

Suddenly they were stuck with a ten game losing streak riding over their heads with one game until league play, which was two days away. Yuba finally snapped the ten game losing streak with a 19-12 win over non league opponent Shasta College by pounding out twenty four hits and tightening up the defense.

"This was a huge game for us to win especially with league starting next week. It took the monkey off of our back and gave us confidence in ourselves that we can do well as a team and not just individual performance," said Neil Logue.

In their first home league game, Yuba tore apart Delta College 10-1 smashing out seventeen hits and committing no errors. Right-hander Wes Porter threw 6 2/3 innings striking out nine and walking seven batters. Team captains Kelly Buber and Logue had two RBIs a piece and freshman Curtis Hudson hit a home run off the score board in right
field as Yuba won its first league game.

After winning two straight games Yuba was back on the road for two games and had one home game facing Sacramento City College, Cosumnes River College and American River College. Yuba played them all tough, but could not hold the defense together committing twelve errors in the three game span.

"Errors killed us all week long. Our pitching has been tremendous the whole year, we're just having trouble focusing on defense right now. These were all very good teams but we can beat them," said Logue.

Yuba would recover in a strong way by beating Solano College 12-4. Steve Briggs pitched 6 1/3 innings only giving up three hits. Curtis Hudson, Jake Howard and Buber had twelve hits between them.
