Limited to eleven players on the roster and starting the season out on a 1-11 record, the Yuba College softball team has turned it around and is back in the thick of things in the Bay Valley Conference Silver Division with a 5-5 league record and 11-16 record overall.

"In the first few games of the season we had the early season jitters. We came out flat and it carried through for a couple of games," said head coach Stephanie Reynolds.

It all took a turn, when Yuba hosted its first home game of the season against Lassen College and swept them in a double-header 14-5 and 10-2.

Marisa Vodden won game one for Yuba, and Taryn Shrekengost won game two. Shrekengost pitched the whole game, giving up only one earned run in the second game. In the first game of league play, Yuba hosted Laney College and destroyed them winning the double-header 16-0 and 17-0. Shrekengost threw a no-hitter in the first game and Vodden pitched a one hitter in the second game to lead the 49ers.
Yuba traveled to Mendocino College and Cosumnes River College during the next week losing to Mendocino 10-2 and splitting with Cosumnes River College by scores of 3-0 and 0-3.

In their next league game Yuba traveled to Contra Costa College and lost 7-6. Yuba committed six errors. Contra Costa only had one earned run.

Keep this in mind: Yuba hosts five of the its next eight games at home where they are tough and undefeated with a five game unbeaten streak 5-0 at home.

"I feel if we stick with our basics and keep our errors down we will win more than we lose and be right where we need to be to make the post season," said Molly Short.
